Junior College Baseball

The City of Raton and LUNA Community College will bring Junior College Baseball to Raton's Gabriele Field next week, when the LUNA team will play host to Otero Junior College and Trinidad State Junior College for two days of baseball excitement.

On Wednesday, April 21st, the LUNA Roughriders will play host to Otero Junior College with a Double Header beginning at 4:00pm, followed on Thursday, April 22nd, with LUNA playing host to Trinidad State Junior College. Thursday’s game will begin at 1:00pm.

All three participating schools are members of the NJCAA and hoping to earn births in the National Junior College Championships for their respective divisions.

Returning to Raton with the LUNA Roughriders will be 2009 Raton High School Graduate Lucas Serna. Lucas is a freshman with the Roughriders and sees action for Coach Ortiz at a variety of positions.

On Wednesday the Otero Rattlers also bring Raton High School Alumni home to Legion Park. Coach Carrillo and the Rattlers have two starters from Raton High School: sophomore Clay Apodaca (2008) starts at 3rd base and freshman Jordan Carlini (2009) leads off and plays centerfield. All three players were members of the 2007 Raton AAA State Championship team and Raton Little League participants.

The Raton High School Baseball Coaching staff has been instrumental in bringing this baseball showcase to Raton and all three Junior College coaches are excited about this opportunity. Coaches Carrillo, Douglas (TSJC) and Ortiz are familiar with Gabriele Field and are looking forward to bringing their teams to the Raton facility next week.
