Santa Fe Trail Rendezvous

Event, Camping, Shooting

Hosted at the NRA Whittington Center, hundreds of re-enactors participate in a living-history rendezvous of pre-1840's clad mountain men with a black-powder shoot, hatchet throw, and teepee village. A Santa Fe Trail reenactment with Indians, Spaniards and mountain men is held on Saturday. It's the largest gathering of its kind in New Mexico.

Spend the day in Cimarron visiting or dining in the most haunted place in NM; the St. James Hotel. We recommend a free tour of the Villa Philmonte mansion by one of the scouts at Philmont learning about the history of the Waite Phillips. Additionally, you can take a few snapshots or dive into the green chile lemonade at Kathleen's Burrito Banquet. We can't forget a trip to Hikers Coffee for yummy snacks and drinks!

Surround yourself in nature, whether its fishing, boating, or kayaking. Raton is near plenty of fresh water lakes and low entrance or park fees. We recommend Lake Maloya, Cimarron CanyonTrinidad Lake, Eagle Nest Lake, or the lakes at the Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge.
